Swimming
The Swimming Standing Committee within LASA is responsible for the development of swimming and for the promotion and management of the County Aquatic Events, working with the clubs to develop aquatic disciplines. Throughout each year their role is to organise a number of events and competitions, to provide opportunities for swimmers within Leicestershire & Rutland to compete and further develop their skills outside of their club environment. These responsibilities include:
-
Development & management of the Performance Pathway
-
Organising Leicestershire & Rutland ASA Age Groups & County Championships each year
-
Organising Mini Meets
-
Organising periodic meetings with all swimming clubs to convey and discuss swimming matters
-
Selecting swimmers for and co-ordinating a County Team and staff for competitions including the annual Inter-Counties Team
MINI MEETS
The Mini Meet series comprises of three time-trials for 9-11 year olds, with results based on the FINA points scoring system.

The aim of the Mini Meet Series is to provide young swimmers with valuable experience of Open Meets on a small scale, and to give coaches an opportunity to assess their progress.

Parents will be encouraged to develop skills as trainee officials and helpers if pool side resources allow.

Age Groups & County Championships
This annual competition is held over a number of weekends in January and February each year, and is open to all swimmers registered with a LASA affiliated club and who meet the qualifying entry times. There are trophies for the overall junior and senior champions, as well as awards for each age group.
Performance Pathway
with
City of Leicester SC
LASA organise a Development Pathway for swimmers who show potential to become elite athletes, ideally aiming towards participating in Regional and National competitions as they move along the talent pathway.
This development programme is currently provided by City of Leicester Swimming Club (CoL), the Swim England recognised performance club for Leicestershire & Rutland. Around 24 swimmers in the Development Squad will have access to 4 x 1.5hr swim sessions and 1 x 30min land session per week.
Swimmers are identified in a number of ways throughout the season. This includes performances in the Mini Meet Competitions, LASA Age Group & Championships and Open Trial sessions. Clubs are also able to put forward potential swimmers for trials for the Performance Pathway throughout the year.
